I am trying to assist a friend who is Leaning toward the Samsung 55:UN55C8000XF Class/1980p 240 Hz 3D LED-LCD HDTV 1080p and purchasing a Blue Ray DVD Player also internet connected. I know I have to have two HDMI cables around 12 feet long, brackets to hang it on the wall, and new cable box for HD Television form my server which is Comcast. Counting Installation, Blue Ray player, Internet ready, brackets for installation, what else do I have to figure in the cost? Help! I’m not very techy! Husband uses rabbit ears to turn the volume way up for watching sports and we both like having the capabilities of using Rabbit ears for the hearing impaired for movies and shows. So whatever we get also has to be capable of that. We want to be able to have closed captions when we watch movies. Any suggestions on what to look for and what not to get?

My uncle died suddently a month ago and left me a Acer Laptop. He is the owner, and we don't have his password, so I'm the guest when I sign on. Can anyone change this for me to be the owner? Also, I might sell this and I was wondering if anyone could appraise it for me?

There is a simple back door that works much of the time as many people use a password on their personal account but fail to password the administrator account which doesn't usually show up. Reboot the computer starting in safe mode with networking. (as soon as you start up, tap the F8 key about twice a second until a screen appears offering you bot options. select 'Safe mode with networking. Follow the prompts accepting that you know what you are doing.) Hit enter twice and a myriad of activity will scroll down the screen. This happens every time you reboot but it is hidden by the pretty picture. Safe mode start the computer with only the most basic drivers ... you will end up on a login screen with the user accounts you are familiar with and MAYBE an administrator account. If there is an Administrator Click it AND and if there is no password you will be in to a desktop where you have total rights. From here log into the user accounts and remove the password, You can upgrade your account to administrator level and them logout and reboot normally with full rights and no passwords. If the Admin account asks for a password and you don't know it you will have use a bootable disk with a utility program like Hiren's CD which has a password cracker included.

We have two old PC’s without Wi-Fi but have 3 laptops that do have Wi-Fi. Our cable router doesn’t have Wi-Fi so I’d like to update it so we don’t have to have our laptops plugged into a cable. I’m confused by all the options and terms out there, N, G, etc. Can these wireless routers also accommodate our old PC’s without the Wi-Fi capability? What do you reccomend?

A hard wired router cannot be upgraded to WiFi. You would need a new wireless router which usually include 4 ports for cable and the added wireless function. You will be fine with a G router which will still be faster than your internent connection but for a little more the N router gives a greater range and stability. You need to have a matching N adapter on the wireless computer for maximum benefit. At the same time if you want a particular computer to access the network wireless it will have to have some kind or wireless adapter. Most laptops have it included. A desktop may need to add an adapter either as a USB device or internally as a PCI card. The USB work well and are easy to install. Make sure you run the disk first, then follow the instruction once the drivers have been installed. You can still use the cable connections into any of the 4 or more ports on your wireless router. You WILL have to connect with a cable to access the router and configure the wireless setting, set security and the SSID you want to use.
